We’re Home! But it Was Not an Easy Trip…

This little one is a PRO traveler.  This time she wore her back pack AND dragged her suitcase behind her, which was so helpful.  You wouldn’t think such a small family would have so much luggage, but we packed light and still had so much to lug around:

Cupcakes’ suitcase & backpack
Tootsie Rolls’ suitcase & diaper bag
BIG suitcase for Mommy and Daddy (checked)
Hobbs’ backpack
My purse
Stroller & TR’s carseat
Cupcakes’ carseat

When we landed in Chicago at 7pm.  Upon getting off the plane, we had to go to the bathroom and I had to change TR and get him into his winter coat.  By the time we got to baggage claim, our bags had already been removed from the carousel and put into the Baggage … office / room?  We didn’t think it took that long to get down there, but evidently it did.  After we got our bags together, we made our way to the waiting stop for the shuttle bus.  It was FREEZING outside in Chicago on November 19th at that time of night, but to make things worse, we had to watch bus after bus come and go to different locations, as TR cried in his stroller.  Finally our bus came and we dragged our kids and bags on it, out of the cold.  The kids and I got off first and Hobbs got back on to get our bags.  They almost drove away to the next stop!  He had to call to the driver that he had a bunch of bags to get off.  PHEW!

Next, we walked to our car, loaded up the bags, loaded up our kids, finangled the broken stroller until it finally folded up, and drove off into the night.  As we were pulling through the exit, and paying, my phone notified me that it was time to feed TR.  OH NO!  Disaster.  Hobbs wanted to try to hurry up and get home, but it was too far a drive, and a little while into it, I insisted we stop so he could eat.  It was around that time, that we noticed the heater was not blowing out hot air, but cold air.  Not cool.  And right after that observation, the ENGINE OVERHEATING light came on, and then we *HAD* to pull off.

I fed TR in the car while Hobbs checked out the situation in the engine.  We were out of coolant.  We’re still not sure if we just ran out naturally, if we have a leak some where, a busted water pipe or what.  Hopefully everything will be ok.  My mom and sister came to the rescue with water to pour in there so we could gimp it home.  Myself and the kids piled into my sister’s little Dart and we followed Hobbs.  He had to pull off once to add more water.

When we got to the house, he went out to get more antifreeze.

I just want to say that it feels so good to be sitting here on my couch recounting this whole tale in the warmth.  It could have been a lot worse… my kids were super great and took all these hiccups in stride.
